When you think of our wonderful slice of Maryland, you likely think of American history. Our region is so packed with historic sites, protected lands, and preservation projects that you might not realize what else we have to offer. About Basignani Winery

Founded by the grandson of Italian immigrants, Bertero Basignani learned the practice of winemaking from his grandparents, which they brought from the Old Country.

Following in their footsteps, Bert aspired to carry on the family tradition. In 1972, while still a student at Towson State University, Bert bought 10 acres of farmland in Butler, Maryland.

Four years later, he saw his dream come to life when he married his wife Lynne. Together they planted 60 vines, 10 each of 6 different varieties. When he began making wine from the harvest, Basignani used his grandmother’s grape press—enriching the region with a whole new kind of history.

Today, Basignani Winery makes 6,500 gallons of wine a year.

What you’ll find at Basignani

The main vineyard is next to the winery tasting room in Sparks, Maryland, and is about 8 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Seyval, Burdin, and Villard.  The Seyval, Burdin and Villard make up the Elena blend.

Upcoming Events

In addition to tastings, Basignani Winery offers special events. You’ll have fun and learn something new!

If you’re not yet settled on Valentine’s plans, why not go for Wine & Truffles? On February 13-14, celebrate at Basignani with your sweetheart. The event includes guided wine and truffle pairings, which will include 5 wines with 5 truffles. You will also be able to taste 3 additional wines of your choice.

The event will feature Parfection’s Chocolates! Each participant in the Wine & Truffle flight is entered into a raffle for a fantastic wine & chocolate basket, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Advance Price: $15 per person in advance ($5 discount for case club members)

Times available: Choose 12pm, 1:30pm, 3pm or 4:30 pm

April 16-17 will offer the exciting Pizza and Herbs event. The Basignani brick oven (and Lynne’s dough) makes the best-tasting pizza this side of the Atlantic.

Admission includes a select wine tasting in your own souvenir glass, one of their delicious pizzas, and a potted Italian herb of your choice.

Price $25 per person. Time options are 12pm, 2pm, or 4pm Saturday or Sunday.

On April 30 and May 1 (noon-5pm), you can Swing into Spring at Basignani. These events are a celebration of the release of the new vintage of sweet wines!

The tasting room is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11:30am to 5:30pm.
