Our hometown, historic Ellicott City, is rife with Americana charm and history. (Check out our free Howard County vacation guide for a ton of recommendations!) Shops like the magical Forget-Me-Not Factory are what make Ellicott City so special.
So what exactly is the Forget-Me-Not Factory? It is whimsy. It is magic. It’s where bubbles meet fairy dust. (Good news! You can shop online too!) Located in one of the largest and oldest buildings in historic Ellicott City, the Forget-Me-Not Factory’s three floors are filled with Dept. 56 Villages, dragons, fairies, costumes, and even a player piano on the third floor.
Whimsical stuffed dragons, unicorns, and mermaids. Beautifully crafted plush animals. Bubble kits including bubble wands shaped like unicorns, fish, butterflies, and dinosaurs.
At the Forget-Me-Not Factory, you’ll be able to find gifts for the scientific imaginations too! Young scientist kits include the Magic Schoolbus series, Clifford Series, chemistry, crystals, and volcanoes.
You can create your own magical landscapes and fantasies with the shop’s fairy gardens and accessories, including fairy houses. You’ll find fairies controlled by magic wands and pixie silks. Fairy dust. Wearable butterfly, fairy, peacock, and bumblebee wings. Butterfly, fairy and dragon masks.
To complete your transformation, you’ll enjoy the selection of crazy hats: wizard hats—even a suede replica of Harry Potter’s sorting hat!—leprechaun hats, pirate hats, tiaras, the Mad Hatter’s topper and more.
For a truly special gift, you’ll love the handmade and custom made items: everything from fairy crowns and dream catchers, to masks, fairy houses, dollhouses, jewelry boxes, shadow boxes, and more.
Barry the Bubbleman is largely responsible for what makes the Forget-Me-Not Factory so very unforgettable. He’s delighted folks for years with bubble wizardry on the street outside the shop, dressed as the Mad Hatter or a Pirate or even Father Christmas. Barry’s slogan? “Play with bubbles and forget your troubles.”
Barry the Bubbleman is a much-loved figure in the region. He and the shop have been featured in such news outlets as Laurel Patch, Baltimore Sun, The Washington Post, and the Fairfax Times.
Open Sunday-Friday 10am – 9pm, Saturday 10am – 10pm. Closed major holidays.
Coming up soon on December 3, the Forget-Me-Not Factory will present Scott Enter and Stephen Pepin in a Dept. 56 Village Christmas Magic Event (noon-4pm). The designers will even sign a Dept. 56 Village piece and demonstrate how they create the landscapes.
